    my inertia flows

First day at work for placement. Mrs Bryn is really really a wonderful and lovely person.

They finally gave up the idea of getting me involve in the research for the Inuit exhibition, which is something I don't really fancy. Instead I was given much freedom to do some cataloguing in objects I'm interested, e.g. the fans.. coool. And of course the usual documentation work,  identiify objects location and movement.

Knackered, probably because of the dissertation submission last Friday + moved to London on Saturday + Skype file receiving lecture over internet for mom last night.

So well yeah. First day at work. Wish to wake up 30 mins later tomorrow and be late at work. Planned for Malaysian dinner on Wednesday. And planning for a runaway on Thursday (with the excuse research in library needed).

Oh just dreadful to bring my own computer to work everyday. and 30 mins overground train.  I was moaning a lot for this sometime earlier. It was fine to travel over 30 mins by train in Kuala Lumpur or Shanghai, but sigh I'm becoming like any other grumpy British now.

    Summer has gone. Rainy London.

    no subject

(it's easy!)

Please keep the kitchen clean, else Im gonna kick you out from the block!

    i love Berlin - Germany 2nd stop

    31 May 2009

Mr J wanted to go home, and his bus is 10 minutes after my train. We are going separate ways. So he couldnt send me to the railway station, I have to walk alone. (As long as you know how to shout out Bahnhof, you will eventually get to the station, I did that.)

From E town to Hamburg city, changed platforms for train to Berlin. No first class, no reserved seats. No hassles.

Here I come, sunny sunny Berlin! I decided not to take any trains but to walk to the hostel. Streets are so clean and clearly labelled, one can walk easily.

20 mins walk, and I got to the hostel, very very clean and comfortable hostel. Reposed for an hour. I'm out to experience the city!

I went to the famous Unter den Linden area. The Humbolt University, where Einstein was here as a student and a professor. I also went into the disappointing Guggenheim Berlin. I shouldnt have paid the 3 euros. Then I made my way to the Memorial for the Murdered Jews in Europe. Another round Unter den Linden. French & German churches. Concert house. Museum Island.

Had refreshments in a coffee shop, a light dinner, which is like 5 minutes away from the hostel. Rain poured as I just stepped out the shop, didn't expect I'm going to experience the worst soak in rain in my life so far. I prayed loudly if you could stop for a little while but oh dear rain god you responded me with a heavier pour! I must have looked so terrible everyone glanced at me at the hostel.

    Day Two.

Free guided walk after breakfast from 11am - 4pm, all stories of Berlin have been revealed. I paid a tip of 5 euros at the end, to our lovely guide Louis, a graduate from the UK. My ultimate destination, the Jewish Museum, is my next stop. Awesome architecture! I left around 8.30pm, all shops are closed by then. A quiet night. I'm heading to Bilbao the next day. U-Bahn and bus, Tegel Airport is so small, and so close to the city.

What a city. Not too big and not too little. Clean and simple. Something old, something new. I fell in love with Berlin. Unter den Linden, Museumsinsel, Lustgarten, Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, Adlon Hotel, Tiergarten, Berlin Wall, suddenly I feel I've known this place for a long time and I know the directions by heart. I dont know if I can come back one day during Winter time, I'll make a tour to Sachsenhausen.

useful words in Germany: Hallo. Danke. Bahnhof.

    德国first stop

朦胧中我指着radio说,i like him, robbie.

flight cancellation - a day wasted

    29 May

Left hostel at 6.15am, by 7.30am I'm already at the Orly Airport, only to find out the flight to Dusseldorf has been cancelled (heard it's caused by strike). I wasn't that much terrified. Stood in the line for 3 hours to see how things can be done. Got a seat eventually for flight at 5pm, which means arrival in Hamburg at 9.30pm. Great.

Mr. J was there on time to greet me at the arrival hall. Finally at 1am I lay my head in the bed. A day wasted, and my plan to the art museum has been murdered.

Greyish day for me, despite bright sunny day in Paris and Hamburg.

    ^^^^
In Paris, metros are usually old. French men are mostly well-dressed, I've seen a couple of them tucked their hands on their left pockets lol.

Most heard words in Paris: Bonjour, Merci, Pardon, and Au Revoir if you want.

Was so hot in the evening I arrived in Paris. Plan to meet an acquaintance there in Paris after few years absence. Très chaud (too hot), I kept on mumbling. Chamber is very small, on the 2nd floor. Dare not take my suitcase up the steps of the wrecked wooden spiral stairs, I politely asked for help. Aidez-moi, s'il vous plaît (Help me, please). The man at the reception did. Merci beaucoup (Thank you very much).

Arc de Triomphe and Avenue des Champs-Élysées made the night. A pouring late evening in Paris.

Sacré-Cœur our first stop, the heart of Montmarte, and then we strolled along Place du Tertre, and entered Espace Dali Montmarte. Didn’t expect a rainy Place du Tertre.

The afternoon was spent wholly in Musée d'Orsay, my favourite art museum where it houses a lot of impressionists artworks.

A spontaneous hop on train to La Defense. Then a walk round the Grand Palais –> Pont Alexandre III. Night is still young, we proceed to Moulin Rouge the red light district.

After breakfast of chocolate and breads, it is Versailles. A long long queue to get in. The royal apartments, a taste of French luxury. Such a massive area so that Marie Antoinette could build her own village of farmhouses and cottages there in Versailles.

Exhausted day did not end here. We were running in the Louvre to catch the glimpse of our favourite objects. The three masterpieces, and oh, Eugène Delacroix! I love his paintings so much and now they are standing right in front of me!

    Starved. Japanese set dinner.

Cold windy day. Tour Eiffel. Lunch in a brasserie, very well-served with a good garçon whom we guess his name is Benjamin.

I wanted to go so so much, to the Musée du quai Branly. Had much fun inside! Opened in 2006 and designed by Jean Nouvel, the architect who is going to build the Louvre branch in Abu Dhabi.

Notre Dame, and followed by Musée National Picasso, till 6pm.

Grand magasins time in La Fayette and Printemps, must-go spots for my dear friend who longed for the shopping spree so much.

    Pompidou Centre the last stop.

Jon, Chris, Paolo, Miki, Mai, Min, Young, Joanna, Anita, Erica, I-Chun, Yu Ting, JJ, Andromeda, myself)

Dissertation, the deadly D, makes me doze and dizzy.

Placement interview(s). London! I never been to those places of interest yet, but I have to pretend like I have known them my whole life!

Birthday. Another year celebrated three nights in a row again. Please I wanna stay young forever.

So I am off to Europe after next week, won't be here for 10 whole days. Aww...

    Vendredi!

I can't really have anything in my mind right now.. I've just got 1001 things in my head!

    Right. It's Friday today.

Just can't believe, we have completed the 10,000 words bidding proposal (group project)! Recalling the six hours in the study room at the library on Wednesday, 3 of us doing the editing of 10,000 words, how relentless this could be. Someone needs cigs, some threw up, some suddenly broke into tears. I could understand, we are losing our nerves and are obviously over-stressed!!!!

It is a big shame to learn of a betrayal of sort of once close friend of mine through the 'Idobata' meetings we had, when we are coming to the end of the course. But at the same time I thank God I don't need to put up with it for long. I've got nothing to lose after all.

We've got a new housemate all in a sudden when the 2nd term is about to end. Life is not always simple, and full of coincidences. She told us she moved in as she had argument with her previous housemate, which turn out to be.... one of my classmate.

Last meeting with the Student-Teacher Committee today. Everyone has got so much to say in the meeting. Still feel awkward when so many pair of eyes lay at you as you voice your concerns. I had to run to the movie right after that. Managed to arrive and meet the other 2 girls 5 mins before the movie started. Cafe au lait sans sucre. I need some sweetness.

'Il y a longtemps que je t'aime'. Nice movie. Nice colour. Nice music. Nice story. Nice companion. French people has always got the taste of good life. I like it.

Well, I am hoping for the good news from that particular museum in East London for the placement this summer. At least free tea and coffee provided. Dreaming about wallpapers, lovely tea sets, display of plants and flowers in the home in the 19th century. Geeeeeeeeee.

Project submission 9am, Lecture 12pm, Meeting 2pm, Movie 3.30pm. The day doesn't end here yet. Gotta get myself ready, going down to pub for a drink at 7pm. I can't breathe.

Vendredi, so I can do it today!

An individual presentation and an essay coming have to be done within 2 weeks before I am off for Easter break going home then, weeeeee. (Presentation examiners: Dave and Magnus. Magnus Magnus seems like I have known you long before I meet you, you were the 2nd marker for my M2 essay I remember)

    C'est pour maintenant. Avec bisous!

the End of Feb 2009/ Lincolnshire

27th Feb, I looked at Robbie, he'd tell me this is his last cigarette in Feb, and would show me a scarier image in March. He stays in my room, in the calendar.

I could have gone to that city that country for the weekend to see someone.

I could have gone to city A too.

Yet I've chosen the good girl image to spend the weekend in Lincolnshire with a British family, whoops! Not my first stay with a British family, it was rather similar to Mrs S's family in London.  Mrs T and her husband love students from Malaysia, and they are also Francophile.

Spent 4 hours in the town Lincoln on Saturday morning, visited the 900 years old Cathedral and the places nearby. Pleasant country air, peaceful and slower pace of life. Dinner at Caroline's place, a friend of theirs, who was at the same time hosting a French girl that weekend. Caroline happened to work as the housekeeper in the Palace before, she just makes you feel so cosy at her place, in that 300 year-old house (not a castle). She'd serve you glasses of wine and crisps before the dinner, and help on with your coat.. Tout ensemble it was a very joyful dinner, and she is a very graceful lady.

I had my next morning sitting in the house chatting with the 88 year old granny. And then a traditional British dinner stuffed me. Hopped on train at 3pm headed back to Leicester. Back to the reality.

Heavy snowfall hits Leicester, but international students at the University don't feel under the weather

Supposed to visit 2 galleries in Manchester today. Trip was cancelled because of bad snowfall and poor visibility. Still walked down to department before 8.30am only to find out they have cancelled it. A bunch of people went to library cafe to have hot chocalate.

    What's next? Snowfight!!
